Deputy Chief Shane Cote

Shane Cote graduated from Caribou High School in 1992. He also earned his Eagle Scout award from Troop 185 in Caribou in 1992. He went on to the University of Maine and graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 1994. While working for the Farmington Police Department Shane attended the University of Maine at Farmington and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2005.

Shane started his law enforcement career at the age of 18 working as a transport officer for the Aroostook County Sheriff's Department. During college, he worked as a security guard and as a transport officer with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department. Shane was hired as a full-time patrolman with the Town of Farmington in November, 1996. He attended the 84th Municipal/County Basic Police School at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, graduating in June of 1997. Shane became the third bicycle patrol officer for the Farmington Police Department in 1998 and has ridden as a Police Volunteer in the Trek Across Maine since 1998. Shane has also been a Leg Leader for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maine since 1998. Shane was awarded the Police Officer of the Year award for 1999 and more recently the Employee of the Quarter. He also works as a part-time deputy for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and as a reserve patrolman for the University of Maine at Farmington Department of Public Safety.

Shane is one of four field training officers with the Farmington Police Department and is a certified instructor for the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Shane is also a certified Standardized Field Sobriety Testing instructor. In May of 2004 Shane became a certified Drug Recognition Expert through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and IACP and is currently a Drug Recognition Expert instructor. Shane was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June, 2004.

Shane completed his studies this year earning a Masters degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Husson University and was promoted to Deputy Chief in October 2010.

When he is not on duty, he enjoys bicycling and hiking with his family and photography.
