chief raymond orr 1958 - 1979
Raymond graduated from Wilton Academy and enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years. He began his career as a constable for the Village Corporation in 1958. At that time there was no police department, and he was one of two constables. Raymond formed the Farmington Police Department in 1967 and the town voted to accept that in 1968 with himself becoming the first Chief of Police. He was crucial in not only forming the department, but increasing training, equipment, retirement plans, and personnel. In 1974 Raymond became a certified Police Chief, according to the standards by the Criminal Justice Academy. Raymond was active in his community serving as a town selectman for 9 years and leading a 4-H group for 25 years. Raymond served 21 years before retiring. Raymond’s original uniform and equipment are on display at the Farmington Police Department in the front lobby.
